I called back and was told to try another usb port. The mouse worked in the other port and I was told to remove the other copy of the driver software. At this point the optical mouse still worked but did not have the special features. It would still not work in the original port. I tried some other hardware in the original port and they worked fine.
Technical support said that I had a usb problem and they could not help me. They said to leave the mouse attached to the new port and install the software only if I needed the features.
I finally decided to reinstall the software and a miracle happened. It fixed the problem!
What use was technical support? They made matters worse and gave the wrong diagnosis. Is this normal for tech support?
